Jan Burgess Joins Our Team
Moseley Architects proudly welcomes Jan Burgess, AIA, as a senior project manager in the higher education sector. Jan augments the firm’s higher education team with expertise gained from more than 27 years of experience specializing in university residence life facility design. His student housing portfolio encompasses more than 22,000 beds across the country.
Jan previously collaborated with Moseley Architects in 2013 on a fraternity housing project for the College of William and Mary. The $21 million project featured 11 separate 17-bed fraternity houses as well as a community building.
“I am thrilled to have Jan on our team. He strengthens our reputation for designing student housing facilities and enjoys sharing his passion with colleagues. With his guidance, I think our younger designers will benefit from his experiences,” higher education sector leader Jeff Hyder said.
Jan has extensive experience leading design charrettes with stakeholder groups, developing financial models, and designing cost-effective student housing solutions. He recently led a week-long charrette with Northern Oklahoma College that resulted in the design of a single set of residence hall floor plans for construction on two distant sites.
His portfolio attests to his ability to establish strong relationships with clients who repeatedly engage him for design services. He served as senior design manager on South Dakota State University’s $21 million, 412-bed Jackrabbit Village. Following its successful completion in 2010, the university then entrusted Jan to manage the design of a large-scale $44 million residence facility. The 800-bed, three-building complex was completed in 2013.
Jan holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kansas State University. He was president of AIA Kansas in 2006 and served on the board for six years. His is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional.
As a featured speaker at the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International/ APPA: Leadership in Educational Facilities annual Housing Facilities Conference on October 17, Jan will address how facility assessments can inform capital improvement efforts.
